Last updated July 16, 2017

Keep in mind:

The photographs below are only meant to show the design of the plates that are for sale. They are not intended to show the condition of the plates. The plates shown in the photographs may or may not be a photo of the actual plate that is for sale!! If a plate number is listed in the description then the picture shown is the actual plate for sale. Otherwise the plate(s) for sale will be the same design but may have a different plate number.

To see an explanation of grading terms used go to the page on license plate grading terms. This page includes links to several other pages with photographic examples of each grading term most license plate collectors use.

This page is organized as follows: If I have a plate from a particular country it will be listed in alphabetical order. For countries whose individual states or provinces issue their own plates (such as Australia or Mexico) the states will be shown in alphabeical order within that country, For example if I have plates from the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Tabasco and Durango they would be listed under Mexico the order of Durango, Oaxaca and Tabasco. Within each jurisdiction ordinary standard-issue plates for privately-owned vehicles (commonly called "normal series") are listed first folowed by any non-normal series plates (such as taxi, trailer, motorcycle, government, etc.). If nothing is listed from a place you're looking for that means I don't have a plate from there.

This is a hobby to me, not a business. I don't have online ordering or checkout. If you are interested in anything e-mail me at

  Bosnia and Herzegovina ~ ~
Bosnia-Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1992. War broke out later that year when the two largest ethnic minorities in the country (Croats and Serbians) tried to establish their own separate countries. This civil war lasted from 1992 to 1995.

From 1992 to 1998 each ethnic region of the country (Bosniaks, Croats and Serbians) issued their own series of plates. In 1998, after the civil war had ceased, each of these three series of plates were replaced by a single nationwide series of plates.

In 1992, when the civil war started, many plates had the red star of the then-current Yugoslavian plates painted out.
In the Bosnian-controlled portion of the country two short-lived series of plates were issued from 1993 into 1995. In late 1995 a new BIH series was introduced and were used until 1998.

mint (# 30265 A) $9

On some of México's 1976/77 plates they experimented with reflectorization. Some plates in public service classifiations were made with a reflectorized coating as an experiment to see how durable they would be. This is one of those plates. It has a coating of small glass or plastic beads that reflect light, making the plates more visible at night. The area on the bottom of the plate between the "BC" and "MEX" was not covered by the beads which is why it has a slightly lighter appearance to the tan background.

Montenegro was the last of the former Yugoslavian republics to become independent. It became independent in 2006 when it voted to separate from Serbia.

After independence the 1992 series of Yugoslavian plates in use at the time continued to be used until a new design of plates was issued in 2008. After independence a paper sticker with the Montenegrin coat of arms was frequently placed over the Yugoslavian flag on the 1992 plates, or the Yugoslavian flag was painted out.

  Russia ~ ~
Modern Russia is a federation composed of 85 political jurisdictions (called federal subjects, similar to states) that have various names. Some are called republics, some are oblasts (provinces), some are krai (territories) and some are called autonomous okrugs. Additionally there are three federal cities and one autonomous oblast.

License plates in these jurisdictions are all the same. The federal subject that a vehicle is from is indicated by the two or three-digit number in a separate panel on the plate. For example the codes 24 and 124 are Krasnoyarsk krai, in the heart of Siberia. If there are three digits the code is the last two.

  South Africa ~ ~
Transvaal Province
Until 1994 South Africa was divided into four provinces, the Cape of Good Hope (commonly called Cape Province), Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal.
In 1994 these four provinces were reorganized into nine new provinces.

In this reorganization Transvaal was split into today's Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces and parts of Transvaaal went into today's North West and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.
The original Transvaal Province included the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg.

After Transvaal was split it took some time for the new provinces to get their registration systems set up. South African Transvaal plates (T suffix) continued to be issued until 1996 when they were all voided and replaced by the different provinces' series of plates.

  Yugoslavia ~ ~
Prior to the fall of Communism in the early 1990s Yugoslavia was a federation of six seperate Socialist republics:   Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia.
In 1991 Croatia, Macedonia and Slovenia declared independence, followed by Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1992.

In April 1992, after these separations, the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia changed its name to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, now consisting of just the former Socialist republics of Serbia and Montenegro. After this 1992 reorganizaton the license plates of Yugoslavia changed to have the new Yugoslavian flag between the town code and numbers rather than a red star as had been on plates during the Socialist Republics period.

In February 2003 the name of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was officially changed to the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, reflecting the two republics that it consisted of. There was no change to the country's license plates at this time.

In 2006 Montenegro voted to become independent and the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro dissolved into an independent Montenegro and an independent Serbia.
