Keep in mind:
The photographs below are only meant to show the design of the plates that are for sale. They are not intended to show the condition of the plates. The plates shown in the photographs may or may not be a photo of the actual plate that is for sale!! If a plate number is listed in the description then the picture shown is the actual plate for sale. Otherwise the plate(s) for sale will be the same design but may have a different plate number.
To see an explanation of grading terms used go to the page on license plate grading terms. This page includes links to several other pages with photographic examples of each grading term most license plate collectors use.
This page is divided into two basic sections. The top section lists plates from the 13 jurisdictions of Canada in alphabetical order (if I have any). Below the section on Canada are plates from the 51 jurisdictions of the United States in alphabetical order (including the District of Columbia). For each jurisdiction ordinary standard-issue plates for privately-owned passenger cars are listed first, then non-passenger or specialty plates (such as truck, trailer, taxi, environmental, college, etc.). If nothing is listed from a place you're looking for that means I don't have a plate from there. If a particular state or section gets too long I may break it off onto a separate page. In such cases a link will be shown where that jurisdiction would normally fall.
This is a hobby to me, not a business. I don't have online ordering or checkout. If you are interested in anything e-mail me at

![]() 1995 vvg (# 820119) $7 |
||
In late 2005 Delaware began issuing plate stickers which were printed on demand in the registration office when a plate is issued rather than pre-manufactured stickers. These are sometimes called "smart" stickers because the sticker's serial number is the plate number. The ink used on these black-on-white stickers scratches or rubs off very easily so it can be difficult to find a recent Delaware plate with good ink on the plate's sticker. | ||

1989 base backdated to 1988, vg (# BMP 598, Sedgwick County) $5 In Kansas the month of expiration is based on the first letter of the vehicle owner's last name. When a new plate design is phased-in some newly-registered vehicles will get plates which expire in only a few months. In some cases this might be in the same year that the plates are issued so will have the current year. In 1988, as a new plate was being phased in for 1989 expirations, some 1989 plates were issued with 1988 stickers. While not terribly rare, these backdated plates are not common either. |

1998 plain base, exc (# EYB-755, Boone County) $12 In the late 1990s Kentucky was sued by a photographer who claimed that the image of two horses that the state had been using on their plates since the mid-1980s was his. As a result of this lawsuit, for a short time newly-made Kentucky plates were in a plain design until new plates for a general reissue were made and issued. This is one of those uncommon, short-lived plain plates. |

1986 on unreflectorized graphic base, vg (# CDJ-898) $12 North Carolina's First in Flight graphic base came out in 1982. Initially these plates were scotchlite reflectorized but some plates in 1983 and 1984 were not reflectorized. Numbering on the non-reflectorized plates jumped around a bit but the general range was from the BLK to DBX letter combinations, then again from DVH to DVN. Approximately 660,000 plates were made unreflectorized. |

1982 with "type 1" sticker, vg (# 5N4-533) $7 Pennsylvania introduced staggered-monthly registration in 1980. Their stickers' design included a very tiny year in the upper-right corner and a large, three-letter month abbreviation in the center. Foolishly they made their 1982 stickers the same color as their 1980 stickers and since they alternated the corners that the stickers went in, the 1982 sticker was supposed to be placed over the 1980 sticker. Thus from a distance of a few feet one could not tell if a plate was valid or not because the stickers looked identical. To solve this problem Pennsylvania changed their stickers to have a large, numberic month and year. So instead of a large "NOV" and tiny year that could only be read from inches away, the newer stickers would read "11-83", for example. This change occurred mid-year in 1981 on the expire-1982 stickers. For 1982 January through August expirations had the old-style (type 1) stickers and for September through December expirations had the new style (type 2) stickers. This particular plate has the last month of the "old" style sticker, August 1982. A September 1982 expiration would have had a sticker reading "9-82". |

2005 with Jamestown anniversary on sticker, vg (# JAA-8348) $10 In July 2002 Virginia revised the design of their passenger plates. With the 400th anniversary of the Jamestown Colony coming up in a few years the slogan 1607 400th Anniversary 2007 was added to their plates. There were four varieties of these anniversary plates; this is the first one. The slogan is actually a clear sticker applied to the bottom of the plate. |
